Dairy

I know this topic has been beaten to death, but I am still going to ask this, just for peace of mind if nothing else.  I know when trying to drop fat, dropping sugar is important.  The lactose in dairy is sugar and that is why many drop it when they start show prep not to mention any intolerance one may have.  However, dairy seems to have so many healthy aspects such as protein and calcium, etc.  I particularly like nonfat greek yogurt.  It doesn't have as much sugar as regular plain yogurt and the probiotics seem to work well with my digestive system.  If my goal is to drop fat at a good rate, is it ok to keep it in, or should I drop it for now?

well...if you have lactose tolerance issues you shouldnt be waiting until contest prep to drop it anyway.

It isnt so much about dropping sugar as it is about keeping your total carbs and fats in check.  Lactose IS sugar...well so is fructose (fruit), and I eat plenty of fruit during contest prep, I even know of one former world champion WNBF pro who has since gone on to win his IFBB pro card NATURALLY at the age of 50 who eats fruit every day while prepping, ahem cough...Dave Goodin...cough.

If you enjoy the greek yogurt, and it is providing a health benefit to you...then you should be eating, provided that you can fit it into your daily macros.

Jordan is correct.  This is a left-over myth probably pre-dating but popularized by the '70s Arnold era....dropping dairy, fruit, bread, etc and eating only the most complex carbs.  While that's not the worst advice you could take, it's just not necessary.  Lactose is a very complex sugar and is fine if you digest it well.  One reason I think most banned it from their "approved" list is that a lot of people do have true dairy allergies and if it makes you puffy or stuffed up (sinus), then you likely don't want it in too large of amounts; it's just not healthy for you.  A little yogurt, a little cheese, protein powder - all of that is fine if you tolerate it well, but dropping it won't make you lose body fat any faster.  That's the wrong reason to eliminate it.

Already made Punta Cana weight with 3 weeks to spare, easier then I thought (:

I think if you can fit it in your macros you're fine, IMO.  I would have low fat cottage cheese with fruit mixed in all the time during prep and it never stalled my progress.

Well, I don't have an intolerance (at least as far as I know) and it fits into my macros (at least it did, getting some macro changes today) so that is great news, I love my Fage % every once in a while.  Thanks everyone.

Focus forward...

Ooh, Fage.  That is my fav yogurt too.  I love the plain non-fat one and mix fresh fruit or cinnamon into it.  In the Fall I add pumkin spice to it, yummy!
