So, I used to be a big runner, in school it was all sprints and middle distance, 300m hurdles, 400m indiviual sprint or the relay. Later on I started getting into 5k's, until I ran so much that I developed a stress fracture stemming from unbelievable shin splints. That was years ago, although I am still pretty prone to the pain of shin splints. So I run in some of the best shoes on the planet:
And I tend to run on trails and grass, as they are more cushiony than pavement, which only serves to aggitate my shins.
With that in mind, I had a nice 5k run today on so very uneven trails in my home town. I have gotten away from timing myself, as I want to just enjoy the run and the woods, but now that we have these journals perhaps I will invest $19.99 in a sport watch and track some progress.
*** Side note...I was running on the trail and I saw this little bird sitting on the ground. He didnt fly away when I approached him, so I figured he was injured. I didnt know what to do with him though, so I went along on my run. about 20 minutes later I loop back and see he is still there, so I grab a small stick and put it by his feet. He hops right on!! A few minutes later a family comes by and I show the bird to the two little boys with their mom and dad. After the showing, the little bird up and flew away!! So I guess he wasn't injured, and I am still in shock that he was that approachable.
here is a pic of the little guy:
